A below average episode that becomes essential with the introduction of another recurring character.

Through a tip from a new informant* Crockett and Tubbs investigate a high speed boat race that might be a cover for a drug smuggling operation run by a man named Louis McCarthy. Crockett works his way into a spot in the race and Tubbs attempts to throw McCarthy off-balance by getting close to his girlfriend Vanessa. Crockett is instantly nervous that Tubbs is getting in too deep as the relationship begins to progress, but the episode pays off in a way that shows that Tubbs is a loyal cop who is acutely aware of what his job is.

* The informant, Izzy Moreno, played by Martin Ferraro appeared in 21 episodes over the course of the series. It's worth noting that Ferraro had already appeared in the series once before in an earlier episode playing a different character.
