Originally broadcast as "The Hit List", "Calderone's Return Part 1" begins at a simple stake out but ends with the death of a major charcter.
While on the tail end of a stake out Crockett is getting ready for his divorce hearing. He is shaving while we hear the off-screen voices of the people under surveillance. Tubbs mans a telescope and his lens wanders to a girl in a bikini. The sequence has a very cinematic feel to it and is an early indicator that the episode is going to be a visual treat.
The location of the stake out should be noted as it would be featured in the opening titles beginning next episode. The Atlantis Condominium has a very unique look to it and it is easy to see why the location was so prominently featured.
The bulk of the episode focuses on the hunt for an assassin working from a hit list put together by Calderone. The stakes are high and raised even higher when it is discovered that Crockett's name is on the list! While preparing to go join his wife and son in protective custody Crockett is saved by Lieutenant Rodriguez who notices the reflection from an assassin's scope seconds before the shot.
Rodriguez winds up in the hospital and Crockett and Tubbs become even more focused on finding and stopping the assassin.
Major progress is also made in Crockett's storyline during the course of the episode. He reconciles with his wife, sleeps with her and ultimately they both decide that they need to get divorced.
The suspenseful episode ends with the vice squad learning that Rodriguez is dead and Tubbs revealing that Calderone has been located in the Bahamas.
